ACEH ALMOST TWO WEEKS ISOLATED: HUMANITARIAN CRISIS THREATENS LIVES, IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE URGENTLY NEEDED
Under International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law, and universal humanitarian principles—humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence—civilians affected by disasters have the right to timely and unhindered humanitarian assistance. Allowing communities to remain isolated constitutes a serious violation of humanitarian obligations.
In Acehnese customary law (adat Aceh), abandoning relatives in distress is considered a violation of dignity and social responsibility. These customary values align with international norms: every human being has the right to live, to be protected, and to have their dignity respected.
We urgently call for:
1. Immediate opening of humanitarian access to deliver aid to all East–North and West–South Aceh regions.
2. Rapid distribution of food and adequate clothing as a life-saving priority.
